Wedding of Giles Brent and Mary Kittamaquund

Timeline

English settler Giles Brent (brother of Margaret) arrived in Maryland in 1638. He held several political offices but eventually lost favor and was forced to leave the Province. One of the causes of his disfavor was his marriage between May 1644 and January 7, 1645, to Mary Kittamaquund, daughter of the Tayac of the Piscataway. Inter-racial marriage was outlawed in Maryland, by an Act of the Assembly in 1692.
