The American Indian Movement (AIM) is a Native American grassroots movement that was founded in July 1968. It first focused on addressing systemic issues of poverty, discrimination, and police brutality against Native Americans in urban areas but then expanded its scope to include various Indigenous tribal issues resulting from settler colonialism in the Americas. The Piscataway hosted the annual AIM conference in 1989.
