Turkey Tayac was buried in Piscataway National Park in Accokeek, Maryland. He was the first Native American allowed to be buried on their ancestral lands since they were taken over by the Federal Government. A verbal agreement with Stewart L. Udall, Secretary of Interior during Kennedy and Johnson’s administration had been put in place which said he could be buried with his ancestors once he passed away. It took almost a year after his death for Congress to pass a bill allowing him to be buried in the park.
