History

Cover of the EOA study for Piscataway Park

An Ethnographic Overview and Assessment (EOA) was undertaken for Piscataway National Park and published in 2021.  The purpose of the EOA was to create an historical and ethnographic context for the park. The EOA includes an extensive history and origins of the Piscataway Indian People, colonial settlements on dispossessed Native Land, the African American presence,  surnames of the enslaved, Marshall Hall Plantation, Bryan Point, Mockley Point, and Marshall Hall Amusement Park. The document examines the results, gives conclusions, and makes recommendations. The principal investigator was Dr. Julia A. King of St. Mary’s College Maryland.
