Archaeology
Through blog posts and emails to its friends list, CCASM makes people aware of Charles County opportunities to volunteer in the lab and in the field and also of public archaeology days where people can participate or just look.
CCASM working with professional archeologists often are essential to the activity, and they love to introduce others to archaeology and to tell visitors about the themes (African American, indigenous, environment, etc.) associated with the site.
CCASM has had speakers at meetings in the past on the themes mentioned. These speakers include CCASM members. Although Charles County Tourism is responsible for docents in Port Tobacco, CCASM members have been docents at Burch House during the Holiday Tour and for other special events.
For any archeology CCASM undertakes, members may do land record searches, genealogical research, refer to lidar maps and USGS maps of the area and do other research.
