St. Mary’s College of Maryland is the National Public Honors College.  The histories of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color have become increasingly central to St Mary’s College of Maryland’s educational mission. Located on the land of the Yacocomico and Piscataway People, and the former site of the Mackall-Brome Plantation, the College’s setting is inextricably linked to the nation’s colonial and slaveholding past. Information and resources pertaining to this history can be found at multiple sites across the campus including physical markers and monuments such as the Commemorative to Enslaved Peoples of Southern Maryland, as well as library and archival holdings. In addition, the College regularly holds events related to the history of marginalized people and runs courses orientated towards this important subject as well.
