National American Indian Movement Conference hosted by the Piscataway

Timeline

The Piscataway hosted the annual American Indian Movement (AIM) conference and called it “In the Spirit of Tecumseh”. This harkened back to the efforts made towards pan-Indian nationalism two hundred years before. 600 individuals from at least 50 different indigenous nations attended. The American Indian Movement was founded in 1968 to improve conditions for Native Americans especially in urban areas.
